Introduction
NOTE: Sadly the 2011 weekend has had to be cancelled. Apologies to all those who had planned or were planning to come. It will definitely be happening next year – October 2012. Will let you know.
Your sincerely Christina
What is Sing Cockatoo?
A weekend combining the joy of a cappella singing and the adventure of exploring Cockatoo Island.
In conjunction with Cockatoo Calling creative development residencies
ABOUT THE WEEKEND
The objective of Sing Cockatoo is to provide both experienced and novice singers with an opportunity to make music together in the unique, World Heritage environment of Cockatoo Island … Sydney’s best-kept secret.
For the full experience we recommend camping overnight, by hiring a campsite (bring your own tent) or a fully-erected tent in Tent City (see Stay and What to Bring for more information). For those who prefer to sleep on the mainland, there is a regular ferry service and we will arrange transport on Saturday evening for those who wish to participate in the singing session.
THE MUSIC
Songs taught are linked to the island, including some music written for the occasion. There is a mixture of simple melodies and harmonies for less experienced singers and some more complex material for those who welcome a challenge. Some music will be written specifically for the occasion by musical director Christina Mimmocchi.

Hello Kenneth,
I am passing on a message from Christina. She has sadly had to postpone 2011 Sing Cockatoo until next year for a number of reasons (the planets have just not aligned themselves). Apologies and hope to see you next year – it is certainly an experience not to be missed for both singers and budding singers!
Cheers janet
